Country Director, Democratic Republic of Congo

About the role

The Country Director is the official representative and senior leader of Women for Women International in the Democratic Republic of Congo. This role shapes the vision and strategy for the country office, provides high‑level oversight of program implementation and operations, and leads a professional team delivering gender‑transformative development interventions.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute the country strategy, operational plans, annual budgets and work plans.
• Provide leadership, coaching and capacity‑building for country office staff.
• Oversee the 12‑month holistic gender‑graduation program, Change Agent initiatives and innovative projects.
• Represent WfWI to donors, partners, government and civil‑society stakeholders, cultivating new partnerships and funding opportunities.
• Lead fundraising efforts, manage the funding pipeline and ensure sufficient resources for program scaling.
• Ensure compliance with donor requirements, WfWI standards, and financial, administrative and logistical controls.
• Monitor, evaluate and learn from program impact, driving continuous improvement.

Required profile

• Proven ability to build capacity, counsel and manage senior‑level teams.
• Strong commitment to women’s empowerment and experience delivering gender‑transformative development programs.
• Excellent leadership, management and communication skills, both written and oral.
• Demonstrated success operating in unstable or challenging environments.
• Experience in partnership development, fundraising and resource mobilization.
