Delegate, Safe and Dignified Burials

About the role

The Delegate, Safe and Dignified Burials (SDB) will support the DR Congo National Red Cross Society in planning, coordinating and implementing safe burial activities during the Ebola response and transition phases. Reporting to the Health Coordinator, the role focuses on quality control, capacity building and technical leadership.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure SOPs and quality assurance frameworks for SDB are established, updated and followed.
• Provide technical advice to the DRC Red Cross and partners on safe burial practices.
• Coordinate with community engagement teams to capture feedback and integrate risk communication.
• Monitor KPIs, oversee training, certification and monitoring of SDB teams.
• Represent IFRC in technical meetings and ensure co‑lead role in the SDB sub‑commission.
• Support capacity building at national and provincial levels, including mentorship of staff and volunteers.

Required profile

• Degree in public health, epidemiology or related field; Master’s preferred.
• Minimum 3 years experience in coordination roles within complex humanitarian operations.
• At least 2 years managing health programs, specifically Ebola or safe burial operations.
• Experience in training, mentoring and capacity building of staff and volunteers.

Required skills

• Knowledge of safe handling of bodies and dignified burial traditions.
• Ability to follow strict infection prevention and control (IPC) protocols.
• Experience developing and implementing quality assurance frameworks.
• Strong coordination and partnership liaison skills.
