Ebola Response Director

About the role

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is seeking an experienced leader to direct the Ebola response in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Based in Bunia, the director will oversee containment efforts, support primary health‑care facilities, and ensure safe continuity of services amid a complex humanitarian and security environment.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the planning and implementation of Ebola containment activities in Ituri and North Kivu.
• Coordinate with the Ministry of Public Health, WHO, and local partners to align response strategies.
• Strengthen infection prevention and control (IPC) practices across health‑care sites.
• Manage emergency‑unit resources, logistics, and staffing to maintain rapid response capacity.
• Monitor outbreak data, produce situation reports, and advise senior leadership on operational decisions.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading large‑scale public‑health emergencies, preferably in infectious disease outbreaks.
• Strong understanding of humanitarian contexts, security constraints, and cross‑border dynamics.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder‑engagement skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and make evidence‑based decisions.
