Environmental Health WASH Assistant – Butembo & Beni

About the role

The International Rescue Committee is recruiting two Environmental Health WASH Assistants to support the Ebola response in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The positions are based in Butembo and Beni and will work directly with primary health care facilities to ensure safe water, sanitation, hygiene and infection control during the outbreak.

Key responsibilities

• Support existing primary health care structures to maintain continuity of essential services.
• Implement screening and isolation procedures for suspected viral hemorrhagic fever cases.
• Strengthen infection prevention and control (IPC) practices within health facilities.
• Coordinate and monitor water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) activities to protect patients and staff.
• Collect, analyse and report data on health and WASH indicators.
• Provide training and mentorship to local health workers on IPC and WASH standards.

Required profile

• Experience in humanitarian health, WASH or epidemic response.
• Knowledge of Ebola or other viral hemorrhagic diseases is an advantage.
• Ability to work in remote, insecure environments.
• Fluency in French and English.
• Willingness to travel frequently between field sites.
