Environmental Sustainability and Climate Action Specialist

About the role

The Environmental Sustainability and Climate Action Specialist will lead the design and implementation of climate‑focused strategies for a large international child‑focused development organization. The role combines technical leadership, research, and capacity‑building to embed sustainability across livelihood and market‑system interventions.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement environmental sustainability and climate‑action strategies for project programmes.
• Lead the CEDRIG Operational Assessment for the Cambodia project and oversee additional environmental impact assessments.
• Analyse programme data to identify improvement opportunities for livelihood and market‑system activities.
• Monitor sector trends and evidence, producing detailed reports with actionable insights.
• Support climate‑related studies, baseline assessments and action research on climate‑resilient agriculture.
• Provide guidance on green economic opportunities, including renewable energy, circular‑economy models, regenerative agriculture and climate‑smart technologies.
• Integrate climate‑resilient practices, nature‑based solutions and sustainable resource management into Inclusive Market System Development (iMSD) interventions.
• Promote climate‑smart value‑chain upgrading and embed environmental safeguards in private‑sector partnerships.
• Facilitate workshops, develop training materials and mentor field teams, lead farmers and local partners on sustainability practices.

Required profile

• Proven experience in environmental sustainability, climate action and related research.
• Strong analytical skills with ability to interpret data and produce evidence‑based recommendations.
• Experience working with inclusive market‑system approaches and gender‑equality/social‑inclusion frameworks.
• Excellent communication and facilitation skills for capacity‑building and stakeholder engagement.
