Finance Director – Democratic Republic of Congo

About the role

International Alert is seeking a Finance Director to lead the finance function of its Democratic Republic of Congo programme. Reporting to the Country Director, you will ensure sound financial management, compliance with donor requirements and support the organisation’s peacebuilding mission.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee all financial operations of the DRC programme, including budgeting, accounting and reporting.
• Manage grants and contracts with major donors such as USAID, Dutch MoFA, FCDO, Canada MoFA, GIZ, EC and UNDP.
• Provide capacity‑building and technical support to staff and partner organisations.
• Liaise with International Alert’s finance team in London to ensure alignment and compliance.
• Lead the finance team, ensuring accuracy, internal controls and timely financial statements.
• Participate in the Senior Management Team, contributing to strategic decisions.

Required profile

• Qualified accountant with at least 10 years of progressive financial responsibility in large or global organisations.
• Minimum 5 years in a senior management role, preferably within an INGO.
• Extensive experience in grants management and familiarity with donor regulations (USAID, Dutch MoFA, FCDO, Canada MoFA, GIZ, EC, Sida, UNDP).
• Understanding of peacebuilding, conflict‑transformation and gender‑sensitive approaches.
