Financial Specialist – Special Projects and Major Grants

About the role

World Vision Democratic Republic of Congo, a Christian humanitarian and development organization working in several provinces of the DRC, is hiring a Financial Specialist for Special Projects and Major Grants in Kinshasa. The position ensures financial oversight of donor-funded projects and partner organizations, safeguards compliance with donor requirements and internal policies, and prepares accurate financial reports for donors and management. It is a fixed-term local employee position.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the preparation of the annual project budget and quarterly work plans, submit funding requests to donors on time, and provide monthly and quarterly funding forecasts
• Ensure timely disbursement of funds to partners, upload accurate budgets (LoA) and fiscal year figures into the SUN financial system, and reconcile partner advance accounts
• Prepare reporting templates, analyze spending against plans, and review partner budget proposals and financial reports, including quarterly spot checks
• Support the assessment of implementing partners' financial capacities and build capacity-strengthening plans
• Review procurement requests, payment documents, mission expense reports and travel requisitions, and keep track of accruals, purchase orders and works to avoid overspending
• Identify financial risks, including fraud and misuse of funds, and facilitate internal and external audits, including follow-up on audit observations and donor recommendations
• Verify the project asset register and enforce BPS compliance through regular reviews

Required profile

• First degree in Accounting or Finance; ACCA or CIMA is an advantage
• At least 3 years of relevant experience in a grant management role within an NGO environment
• Experience with U.S. Government-funded projects and in emergency contexts is an added advantage

Required skills

• In-depth knowledge of accounting software, especially Sun Systems, Vision XL and Vision Executive
• Advanced Excel skills and familiarity with donor financial reporting tools, grant trackers and shared document platforms
• Knowledge of GAAP and grant accounting, and ability to prepare, review and present financial statements and reports
