Geotechnical Engineer

About the role

The International Consultancy Company is looking for an experienced Geotechnical Engineer to lead and support geotechnical investigations on major building and infrastructure projects in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, supervise and review geotechnical investigations for building and infrastructure projects.
• Oversee borehole drilling, field testing, sampling and subsurface investigations.
• Interpret laboratory and in‑situ soil and rock test results to develop design parameters.
• Prepare detailed geotechnical reports, including foundation recommendations, earthworks assessments and ground improvement solutions.
• Perform borehole logging and soil/rock classification according to recognized international standards.
• Provide technical support to design and construction supervision teams on geotechnical matters.
• Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards and project specifications.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Geotechnical, Geological Engineering or related field (Master’s degree advantageous).
• Minimum 8 years of professional experience in geotechnical investigations for building and infrastructure projects.
• At least 5 years of hands‑on experience in subsurface investigations, borehole supervision and geological logging.
• Professional registration with the national engineering board recognized in the DRC.
• Fluency in English; French highly desirable.

Required skills

• Borehole drilling supervision and logging.
• Soil and rock classification (BS 5930, ASTM D2487 or equivalent).
• Interpretation of soil mechanics laboratory and field test results.
• Foundation design recommendations and ground improvement techniques.
• Technical reporting and analytical skills.
