Head of Programmes – Democratic Republic of Congo

About the role

People in Need is seeking a Head of Programmes for its operations in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Based in Bukavu (South Kivu) the successful candidate will lead the design, implementation and quality assurance of emergency and development programmes across the country.

Key responsibilities

• Provide overall supervision and support to all programmes throughout the project cycle, ensuring timely and efficient delivery.
• Lead strategic planning, programme development and proposal writing, integrating innovations, research and best practices.
• Represent the organisation to donors and partners, contributing to medium‑ and long‑term strategy and fundraising.
• Directly supervise Program and Project Managers, fostering synergy among programmes and cooperation with supporting departments.
• Oversee results‑based monitoring and evaluation systems and embed cross‑cutting issues such as gender, social inclusion, climate change and good governance.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in humanitarian and development programme development and management.
• Strategic thinker and problem‑solver with strong leadership and communication abilities.
• Fluent in English and French.
• Willingness to travel frequently within the DRC and undertake field visits.
