Health Specialist (Community Based Surveillance)

About the role

UNICEF is seeking a Health Specialist to strengthen community‑based surveillance for Ebola Virus Disease in Bunia, Democratic Republic of the Congo. The role supports early detection, reporting and follow‑up of suspected cases, contributing to the country’s multi‑sectoral response and protecting vulnerable children and communities.

Key responsibilities

• Implement and coordinate community‑based surveillance activities to ensure timely identification of suspected Ebola cases.
• Train, supervise and mentor community health workers and volunteers on surveillance protocols.
• Collect, analyse and report surveillance data to national authorities and UNICEF partners.
• Facilitate community engagement and communication to improve health‑seeking behaviours.
• Collaborate with health‑sector partners, NGOs and local authorities to ensure an integrated response.

Required profile

• Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in Public Health, Medicine or a related field.
• Minimum five years of professional experience in community surveillance or public‑health programmes.
• Fluency in French; intermediate English is an asset.
• Proven ability to work in challenging and emergency contexts.
