Hydrogeologist

About the role

Knight Piésold is looking for a technically driven Hydrogeologist to join its DRC team in Lubumbashi. The role combines fieldwork, data analysis, report writing, client interaction and project delivery across diverse African projects.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, undertake and supervise hydrogeological investigations, including hydrocensus, geophysical surveys, borehole siting, drilling, aquifer testing and water quality sampling.
• Analyse and interpret hydrogeological, geological, geochemical, piezometric and laboratory data to develop conceptual models.
• Prepare technical assessments such as groundwater impact studies, dewatering assessments, water balance studies and management plans.
• Support groundwater modelling and assess risks for mining, industrial, infrastructure and development projects, recommending mitigation measures.
• Provide hydrogeological input to multidisciplinary engineering and environmental projects, ensuring compliance with quality, regulatory and industry standards.
• Manage technical tasks, budgets and timelines, and assist Project Managers with planning and coordination.
• Prepare scopes of work, cost estimates, proposals and tender submissions.
• Build and maintain relationships with clients, regulators, laboratories and contractors, and supervise field service providers.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Hydrogeology, Geology, Earth Sciences or related field (Honours/Master’s advantageous).
• 3–6 years of relevant experience in hydrogeology, groundwater consulting or environmental consulting.
• Practical experience in field investigations, borehole drilling, aquifer testing, groundwater sampling and geophysical surveys.
• Proven ability to analyse and interpret groundwater and water‑quality data and produce technical reports.
• Familiarity with groundwater modelling, GIS and data‑analysis software is advantageous.
• Valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel across the DRC and other countries.
