Law Enforcement Trainer for Kahuzi-Biega National Park

About the role

The Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) is seeking a Law Enforcement Trainer to develop and deliver a comprehensive training programme for ecoguard staff at Kahuzi‑Biega National Park (KBNP). Based permanently at the park headquarters in Tshivanga, the role supports the Park Director, Deputy Park Director and Law Enforcement Advisor in building a competent enforcement force.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and oversee a systematic law‑enforcement training and mentoring plan for all KBNP staff, especially senior enforcement officers.
• Develop and deliver the Systemic Approach to Training (SAT) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and train ecoguards in their application.
• Coordinate annual training on communications, human rights, gender equality and conflict sensitivity.
• Identify, recruit and manage external consultants as needed, following WCS procurement policy.
• Supervise routine operations, including patrols, inspections and reporting, through training and preparation.
• Act as lead instructor and coordinate with ICCN training staff to transfer skills and courses.
• Serve as deputy to the Law Enforcement Advisor and act as WCS security officer on site.

Required profile

• Experience in law‑enforcement training or capacity‑building within a conservation or security context.
• Ability to work and live in a remote, austere environment with challenging political conditions.
• Strong coordination and mentorship skills to develop a team of trainer‑instructors.
• Fluency in English; French language skills are an advantage.
