Lead Electrical Engineer / Technologist

About the role

WSP is seeking a Lead Electrical Engineer to provide technical leadership and act as the electrical design authority for high‑reliability power systems on data centre and industrial infrastructure projects.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare accurate designs, calculations, budgets and tender specifications for HV/MV/LV systems.
• Lead design and delivery of power systems focusing on resilience, redundancy and operational continuity.
• Manage project financial control, construction monitoring and overall electrical project management through all project stages.
• Develop and maintain client relationships, act as a trusted technical advisor and secure repeat work.
• Set up fee/contract agreements, forecast hourly rates, manage WIP and invoicing.

Required profile

• Minimum BSc Eng. or B.Tech in Electrical Engineering with ECSA registration (Pr.Eng or Pr.Tech Eng).
• At least 10 years consulting engineering experience in building services and industrial environments.
• Excellent English communication and technical report writing skills.
• Ability to work independently, lead teams and manage tight timelines.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of MV and LV power distribution, standby generation, synchronization and system resilience design.
• Familiarity with IEC, SANS and BS standards, and data centre standards (TIA‑942, Uptime).
• Experience with Autodesk Revit, Navisworks and eTAP (or equivalent) for power system studies.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• Understanding of ISO 19650, CDE information management and modern building services technologies.
