Medical Officer (P-3) – UN Mission in Congo

About the role

The Medical Officer provides comprehensive clinical, occupational health and health‑education services to UN personnel in the field, supporting emergency response and the ongoing Ebola response in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver day‑to‑day clinical care, including emergency and trauma services, and coordinate referrals to external specialists.
• Ensure quality of clinical services by applying UN clinical guidelines, quality‑control mechanisms and patient‑safety reporting.
• Manage medical administration such as clearances, sick‑leave processing, medical evacuations and business continuity planning.
• Oversee medical supplies, equipment functionality and training programmes (first aid, CPR, infectious‑disease prevention).

Required profile

• Advanced university degree in Medicine (MD, MBBS, MBChB or equivalent) with unrestricted registration in a UN member‑state.
• Minimum five years of progressively responsible clinical experience; experience in UN or international field operations is desirable.
• Proficiency in English (UN Level III) and preferably French (UN Level II).

Required skills

• Emergency medicine and trauma‑care expertise.
• Experience with electronic medical record systems and data analysis.
• Occupational health assessment and health‑education delivery.
