Postdoc in Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) for Land Data Assimilation

About the role

We are seeking a motivated postdoctoral researcher to join the TurPhyCloud ERC Synergy Project, focusing on the development and application of Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) techniques for land data assimilation within climate‑science research.

Key responsibilities

• Co‑develop measurement and simulation strategies for field campaigns at the Utö Atmospheric and Marine Research Station.
• Design and implement data‑management pipelines for high‑resolution in‑situ observations.
• Analyse combined measurement and Large‑Eddy‑Simulation (MiLES) results to improve understanding of microphysics‑turbulence‑radiation interactions.
• Contribute to the integration of the MiLES model into operational weather and climate models.
• Collaborate with an international team of PhD researchers, postdocs, and professors across TU Delft, Germany, Sweden and Finland.

Required profile

• PhD in Climate Science, Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science or a related discipline.
• Strong background in computational fluid dynamics (CFD).
• Proficiency in scientific programming, preferably Python and Fortran.
• Enthusiasm for interdisciplinary research linking atmospheric measurements, modelling and data analysis.
