Process Engineer

About the role

The Process Engineer will report to the Project Manager and be responsible for designing, optimizing and supervising metallurgical and chemical processes at KCC SA’s copper and cobalt operations in Kolwezi. The role includes equipment selection, process integration, commissioning support and continuous performance monitoring.

Key responsibilities

• Design and optimise process flow diagrams (PFDs) and piping & instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs) and select key equipment such as crushers, mills and flotation cells.
• Oversee commissioning, start‑up and ramp‑up of process circuits, develop SOPs and train plant operators.
• Optimise reagent utilisation, recovery rates and concentrate quality while improving energy and water efficiency.
• Conduct mass and energy balances, analyse test results and implement innovative technologies to enhance copper extraction.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental and regulatory standards and lead risk‑management activities.

Required profile

• University degree in Chemical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum 7 years of process engineering experience in mining or mineral processing.
• Strong knowledge of mineral processing techniques, equipment and best practices.
• Proven analytical and problem‑solving abilities with experience in process simulation and control systems.

Required skills

• Process simulation tools (e.g., Aspen Plus, HSC Chemistry).
• Control systems knowledge (SCADA, PLC).
• Design of PFDs and P&IDs, equipment sizing and selection.
• Experience with ore processing methods such as leaching, flotation, solvent extraction and electrolysis.
