Senior Officer – Furnace System Technical (Direct Blister Furnace)

About the role

The Senior Officer, Furnace System Technical is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the flash smelting furnace and its auxiliary systems at the Kamoa Copper Mine. You will monitor real‑time process parameters, ensure compliance with SOPs, and resolve any abnormal conditions while supporting production targets.

Key responsibilities

• Operate the flash smelting furnace and auxiliary equipment (waste‑heat boilers, ESPs, acid plant interfaces) according to production plans.
• Monitor key parameters via DCS, PLC and field instrumentation, perform trend analysis and issue early warnings.
• Conduct scheduled on‑site inspections of primary and auxiliary equipment, including refractory structures and cooling systems.
• Implement and document safety, environmental and quality compliance requirements.
• Handle equipment malfunctions, emergency response and initial troubleshooting.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to manage costs, support transformation initiatives and integrate HSEQ standards.

Required profile

• Associate degree or higher in Metallurgy or Chemical Engineering (Metallurgical engineering preferred).
• Minimum 6 years of experience in copper smelting, preferably with flash furnaces.
• Fluency in English; French strongly advantageous for DRC operations.

Required skills

• Mechanical and electrical knowledge of furnace systems.
• Operation, control and maintenance of flash furnaces.
• Troubleshooting of smelting processes and equipment.
• Experience with DCS, PLC, and field instrumentation.
• Knowledge of smelting methodologies, production SOPs and emergency response.
