Security Officer – 6‑Month Temporary Assignment

About the role

UNICEF is seeking a Security Officer for a six‑month temporary assignment in Butembo, DRC. The role supports the Hub Coordinator in Beni and the Security Adviser in Kinshasa to ensure the safety of staff, families, and UNICEF assets during the Ebola response.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and update security plans, risk assessments, and contingency procedures for the duty station.
• Monitor the security situation, provide timely alerts, and advise on protective measures.
• Coordinate with national authorities, UN partners, and local stakeholders to enhance security coordination.
• Support the safeguarding of UNICEF premises, assets, and resources.
• Assist in preparing security reports and documentation for management review.

Required profile

• University degree in Security Risk Management, International Relations, Conflict Analysis, Intelligence Analysis, Diplomatic Studies, Counter‑Terrorism or a related field.
• Minimum two years of professional experience in global security risk management or security analysis.
• Ability to work in a complex, insecure environment and adapt to rapidly changing conditions.
• Knowledge of an additional UN official language or a local language is desirable.
