Senior Technical Officer – Santé Mentale et Soutien Psychosocial

About the role

The Senior Technical Officer will lead mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) interventions in Goma, Democratic Republic of Congo. Reporting to the program manager, the officer will ensure high‑quality, inclusive services for people with disabilities and crisis‑affected populations across North‑Kivu and South‑Kivu.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and monitor community‑based MHPSS activities, including prevention, psychosocial support groups and individual counselling.
• Coordinate referrals to specialised mental health services and ensure follow‑up mechanisms.
• Provide technical guidance and capacity‑building to local partners, health workers and protection actors.
• Integrate MHPSS components with protection, economic inclusion and other sectoral programmes.
• Collect, analyse and report data to inform programme adjustments and donor reporting.

Required profile

• Advanced degree in psychology, social work, public health or a related field.
• Minimum 5 years experience in MHPSS programming in humanitarian contexts, preferably in the Great Lakes region.
• Demonstrated experience working with persons with disabilities and vulnerable groups.
• Strong analytical and reporting skills, fluency in French; English proficiency is an asset.

Required skills

• Knowledge of international MHPSS standards and guidelines.
• Experience in community‑based psychosocial interventions and referral pathways.
• Capacity‑building and training delivery for local stakeholders.
