About the role
PATH is seeking a Surveillance Officer to lead technical and operational aspects of the STRengthening Infectious disease DEtection Systems (STRIDES) Project in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The role supports the development, coordination, and implementation of human and animal disease surveillance activities.
Key responsibilities
- Assist with day‑to‑day technical and operational tasks for surveillance activities in the DRC.
- Develop and implement epidemiological and laboratory surveillance for zoonotic, epidemic‑ and pandemic‑prone diseases, including outbreak investigations at regional and national levels.
- Support regional technical staff, ensuring project milestones are met and providing expert guidance.
- Review and revise project and donor reports, draft publications, and manage external communications.
- Coordinate with ministries of health, district health teams, and international development partners.
- Provide input on national guidelines and normative policies related to disease surveillance.
- Serve as a technical expert aligning activities with Joint External Evaluation results, International Health Regulations, and other global guidelines.
- Produce and disseminate high‑quality data products such as situation reports, bulletins, and health risk assessments.
- Support internal learning and capacity building for infectious disease surveillance within PATH.
Required profile
- Master’s degree (or international equivalent) in epidemiology, public health, veterinary medicine, or a related field.
- Minimum of five years of experience in disease surveillance, outbreak investigation, or related public health work.
- Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision and exercise sound judgment in method selection.
- Strong analytical and report‑writing skills.
