WASH Adviser – Kalemie/Tanganyika

About the role

Concern Worldwide is seeking a WASH Adviser for a 12‑month fixed‑term contract based in Kalemie, DRC, with 50% travel to other project sites. The role starts on 5 June 2023 and reports to the Programme Director, supporting the design, implementation and quality assurance of water, sanitation and hygiene programmes.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee implementation of Concern’s global and national WASH strategy across DRC.
• Manage construction, rehabilitation and maintenance of water supply systems (networks, solar‑powered boreholes, hand‑dug wells, catchments) and sanitation facilities.
• Lead hygiene promotion programming and ensure compliance with engineering SOPs, Sphere and DRC WASH Cluster standards.
• Provide technical oversight to WASH Project Managers, ensuring resources and technical designs are in place.
• Conduct site assessments, supervise engineering design, and prepare technical documents such as tenders, BOQs, designs and procurement plans.
• Coordinate with programme, finance, logistics and partner teams, and represent Concern in WASH Cluster meetings.
• Develop new WASH proposals, produce high‑quality reports and disseminate lessons learned.

Required profile

• Proven experience in WASH programme implementation in humanitarian settings.
• Strong knowledge of engineering standards, Sphere guidelines and DRC WASH Cluster requirements.
• Ability to manage multi‑disciplinary teams and coordinate with donors, local authorities and partners.
• Willingness to travel extensively (≈50%) and work onsite in remote locations.
