Environmental Health/WASH Coordinator

About the role

The International Rescue Committee is seeking an Environmental Health/WASH Coordinator to lead water, sanitation and hygiene programming as part of its 12‑month Ebola response in Bunia, Democratic Republic of Congo. The role will ensure safe, dignified WASH services for health facilities and communities while embedding protection and safeguarding principles.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical oversight and implementation of the EH/WASH strategy across the Ebola response, including scale‑up plans and resource allocation.
• Supervise WASH Managers in Ituri and North Kivu and provide guidance to WASH Officers and Assistants.
• Coordinate closely with the Health Coordinator and other sector leads to integrate WASH with infection prevention, risk communication and protection activities.
• Ensure strict adherence to infection control protocols and proper use of personal protective equipment within isolation units.
• Monitor and evaluate WASH interventions, produce reports and adjust plans based on emerging data.

Required profile

• Proven experience managing WASH programs in humanitarian or emergency settings.
• Strong understanding of infection prevention and control (IPC) and protection principles.
• Ability to work safely in high‑risk environments and follow strict safety procedures.
