Law Enforcement Advisor

About the role

The Wildlife Conservation Society is seeking a Law Enforcement Advisor to strengthen law‑enforcement capacity within the Okapi Wildlife Reserve (OWR) in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Reporting to the OWR Director, the Advisor will support the development and implementation of security strategies that protect the reserve’s biodiversity and communities.

Key responsibilities

• Advise and support the OWR Director, Assistant Director and Head of Law Enforcement on operational activities aimed at building security and disrupting criminal activities.
• Develop and implement capacity‑building programmes for the Eco‑Guard force, including training, mentorship and performance monitoring.
• Collaborate with the Institut Congolais pour la Conservation de la Nature (ICCN) and other partners to coordinate anti‑poaching and anti‑mining operations.
• Monitor, evaluate and report on law‑enforcement effectiveness and recommend improvements.

Required profile

• Demonstrated drive, ambition and vision to build a high‑performing law‑enforcement team.
• Experience in wildlife or protected‑area law enforcement, preferably in remote or conflict‑affected settings.
• Strong understanding of poaching, illegal mining and related wildlife crimes.
• Ability to work collaboratively with government agencies, NGOs and local communities.

Required skills

• Knowledge of wildlife protection legislation and enforcement tactics.
• Capacity‑building and training design experience.
• Strategic planning and operational coordination skills.
