Lead Electrical Engineer / Technologist

About the role

WSP is seeking a Lead Electrical Engineer to provide technical leadership for high‑reliability power systems on data‑centre and industrial infrastructure projects. The role acts as the electrical design authority, ensuring system resilience, redundancy and operational continuity.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare accurate designs, calculations, budgets and tender specifications for HV/MV/LV electrical systems.
• Control project finances, monitor construction progress and manage the electrical aspects of the project lifecycle.
• Collaborate with a global, multi‑disciplinary engineering team, driving design coordination and delivery.
• Lead projects from inception to close‑out with minimal supervision, focusing on data‑centre environments.
• Maintain client relationships, act as a trusted technical advisor and secure repeat business.
• Set up fee and contract agreements, calculate professional fees and manage internal project finances (forecasting, WIP, invoicing).

Required profile

• Excellent written and verbal communication in English, including technical report writing.
• Strong knowledge of IEC, SANS and BS standards for MV/LV power systems.
• Familiarity with data‑centre standards such as TIA‑942 and Uptime Institute principles (advantageous).
• Good understanding of building contracts (JBCC, FIDIC, NEC, etc.).
• Proven expertise in MV and LV power distribution, large‑scale standby generation, synchronization schemes and system resilience design.
• Understanding of power quality and related system performance issues.
