Operations Manager – Site Leader (Matadi, DRC)

About the role

The Operations Manager will act as the senior site leader for the Matadi operation, overseeing all production, logistics and support functions. Reporting to the General Manager, the role ensures safe, efficient and profitable performance while building a high‑performing management team.

Key responsibilities

• Lead all site activities including milling, ship discharging, storage, warehousing, logistics, maintenance, quality and workshop operations.
• Ensure reliable, cost‑effective production aligned with business objectives and monitor performance against KPIs.
• Enforce decision‑making frameworks, SOP adherence and robust internal controls such as inventory management and loss prevention.
• Develop and mentor a collaborative management team, fostering accountability, psychological safety and cross‑cultural collaboration.
• Drive continuous‑improvement initiatives to eliminate legacy inefficiencies, optimise cost structure and enhance operational transparency.
• Represent the company with authorities, partners and the community, managing relationships with port authorities, rail operators and local administration.
• Maintain full compliance with safety, food‑safety and environmental standards, promoting a strong safety culture.
• Oversee financial and resource management to support profitable operations.

Required profile

• Proven senior leadership experience in a complex industrial or logistics environment.
• Strong stakeholder‑management skills with the ability to navigate regulatory, political and labour contexts.
• Demonstrated ability to build high‑performing teams and develop local talent pipelines.
• Excellent problem‑solving mindset with a focus on operational discipline and continuous improvement.
