Senior Technical Advisor – Drill & Blast

About the role

The Senior Technical Advisor – Drill & Blast will provide high‑level expertise for planning, designing and optimizing drilling and blasting activities that support open‑pit mining operations at Kamoto Copper Company. Reporting to the Technical Services Manager (OP Planning), the incumbent will work closely with planning, geotechnical, production teams and external partners to improve safety, blast quality, slope stability and overall operational performance.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate and optimise the full chain of drilling and blasting operations to meet safety, quality and productivity targets.
• Promote a safety culture, conduct risk assessments, implement control measures and ensure compliance with health, safety and explosives regulations.
• Develop and oversee QA/QC systems for drilling accuracy, explosives loading and shot execution, continuously evaluating results against technical requirements.
• Track and analyse performance indicators such as fragmentation, vibration, material displacement, dilution and ore losses, and recommend improvements.
• Maintain reliable databases of fire designs, QA/QC results and explosives usage, and produce technical performance reports for decision‑making.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and specialised contractors to align shot designs with geotechnical, surveying and mine‑planning requirements.

Required profile

• Senior‑level technical expertise in drilling and blasting for large‑scale open‑pit mining.
• Strong knowledge of health, safety and explosives regulations.
• Proven ability to conduct risk assessments and implement safety controls.
• Experience working with multidisciplinary teams and external partners.
• Analytical mindset with a focus on continuous improvement and technical innovation.
