Staff Counsellor (Consultant)

About the role

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) seeks a qualified Staff Counsellor to provide mental health support to its personnel operating in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The consultant will work on the front line of the Ebola outbreak response, helping staff manage stress, fatigue, and trauma associated with long‑hour, high‑pressure field work.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver individual and group counselling sessions to IOM staff in Kinshasa and field locations.
• Conduct psychosocial assessments and develop tailored intervention plans.
• Provide crisis support and debriefings after critical incidents.
• Collaborate with the Chief of Mission, Regional Staff Welfare Officer, and Head of Staff Welfare Unit to align mental‑health services with organizational policies.
• Facilitate capacity‑building workshops on stress management and resilience for local teams.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology, Counselling, Psychiatry or a related field, with at least five years of relevant professional experience, or a university degree with seven years of experience.
• Active professional licence or certification and membership in a recognized professional body (e.g., psychology, psychiatry, counseling, social work).
• Minimum four years of post‑licensure counselling experience, preferably in an international or humanitarian setting.
