Surveyor I – Entry Level Marine Survey Position

About the role

The Surveyor I is an entry‑level position designed for recent graduates or candidates with less than five years of experience in marine surveying. Working under the guidance of an experienced ABS Surveyor, you will conduct conventional surveys of vessels, platforms and other marine structures to ensure compliance with classification, statutory and special service requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Perform routine surveys on classed vessels, offshore platforms and related marine structures.
• Prepare accurate and timely inspection reports and maintain organized survey files.
• Interact with clients to address technical questions and resolve issues.
• Develop proficiency in ABS rules, guides and statutory regulations.
• Support office procedures and monitor business performance at assigned ports.

Required profile

• Degree in engineering, physical science or a marine/nautical discipline (minimum two‑year program) or certificated ship officer experience.
• Proficiency in English appropriate for statutory certification work.
• Relevant certifications or licences may be required.

Required skills

• Working knowledge of ABS Rules, Guides and related statutory regulations.
• Ability to read engineering plans and understand basic shipbuilding practices.
• Familiarity with ships’ engineering systems and machinery.
• Competence in preparing surveys in prescribed formats and using related computer software.
• Strong oral and written communication for technical reporting.
