Chief of Communication (P-5) – Fixed Term, Kinshasa

About the role

The Chief of Communication (P‑5) will lead UNICEF’s communication strategy in the Democratic Republic of Congo for a 24‑month fixed‑term assignment based in Kinshasa. Reporting to senior management, the incumbent will ensure that UNICEF’s messages on child rights, health, education and emergency response reach diverse audiences and influence policy.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement a comprehensive communication strategy aligned with UNICEF’s global and country priorities.
• Lead media relations, public affairs and advocacy campaigns to raise awareness of children’s needs in the DRC.
• Oversee the production of high‑quality content for print, digital and social platforms.
• Manage and mentor the country communication team, fostering a collaborative and results‑driven environment.
• Coordinate with partners, government agencies and donors to amplify joint messaging.
• Monitor and evaluate communication impact, providing evidence‑based recommendations.

Required profile

• Advanced university degree in communications, journalism, public relations or a related field.
• Extensive senior‑level experience in strategic communication, preferably within humanitarian or development contexts.
• Demonstrated ability to work in complex, multi‑stakeholder environments and to represent UNICEF publicly.
• Strong knowledge of the DRC socio‑political landscape and child‑rights issues.
