Country Director – Democratic Republic of the Congo

About the role

War Child Canada is seeking a dynamic Country Director to lead its expanding education and protection programmes in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Based in Kinshasa, the role will oversee strategic growth, donor engagement and operational excellence across six provinces.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the development and implementation of the Country Strategic Plan, ensuring alignment with headquarters and field teams.
• Manage programme delivery, monitoring, and reporting to meet narrative and financial obligations.
• Drive fundraising initiatives, including donor cultivation, proposal development and in‑country fundraising with institutional partners.
• Oversee the country budget, financial controls, and regular financial reporting to head office.
• Represent War Child Canada in key networks, building partnerships with ministries, NGOs and other stakeholders.

Required profile

• Proven senior leadership experience in an international NGO or development context, preferably in conflict‑affected settings.
• Demonstrated success in securing and managing donor funding.
• Strong financial management background with experience overseeing multi‑million‑dollar budgets.
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with fluency in English; French is an asset.
• Willingness to travel regularly within the DRC.
