Director, Technical Services, Laboratory

About the role

Corus International is seeking a Director of Technical Services for the Laboratory to lead strategic and technical efforts that strengthen laboratory systems and diagnostic services across the Democratic Republic of Congo and other African countries. The role supports infectious disease prevention, detection, surveillance, and response under the U.S. Government‑funded MOMENTUM Integrated Health Resilience project.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic and technical leadership for laboratory functions addressing Ebola, Mpox, HIV, TB, malaria, vaccine‑preventable diseases and emerging threats.
• Support country teams in developing annual work plans and aligning activities with national laboratory strategic plans, policies, and international standards.
• Advise Ministries of Health on laboratory system improvements, including referral networks, specimen transport, and diagnostic service delivery.
• Strengthen integrated national and provincial laboratory networks, specimen collection and testing processes, and quality assurance systems.
• Guide implementation of laboratory quality management systems, accreditation pathways (ISO 15189, SLIPTA) and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
• Enhance biosafety, biosecurity, infection prevention and control, and outbreak preparedness and response capacities.
• Ensure laboratory interventions align with the Global Health Security Agenda, International Health Regulations (2005) and U.S. Government best practices.

Required profile

• Proven ability to provide strategic and technical leadership for laboratory strengthening initiatives.
• Experience collaborating with Ministries of Health, national public health institutes and provincial health authorities.
• Demonstrated expertise in developing and implementing laboratory strategic plans, policies and operational guidelines.

Required skills

• Laboratory quality management systems (QMS) implementation.
• ISO 15189 accreditation processes.
• SLIPTA accreditation pathway knowledge.
• Biosafety and biosecurity expertise.
• Specimen referral and transport system design.
• Laboratory information systems (LIS) integration.
• Familiarity with GHSA, IHR 2005 and U.S. Government health security standards.
