English‑Arabic Translator (Consultant) – Remote

About the role

The Syria Justice and Accountability Centre (SJAC) seeks a remote consultant to provide high‑quality English‑Arabic and Arabic‑English translation services on an ad‑hoc basis. The role supports weekly publications and occasional longer reports, ensuring timely and accurate delivery of content related to the Syrian conflict, human rights, and international law.

Key responsibilities

• Translate SJAC articles, reports, and social‑media posts from English to Arabic.
• Occasionally translate short documents from Arabic to English.
• Coordinate with SJAC staff to verify terminology, especially for sensitive or technical content.
• Maintain a rapid turnaround for approximately 2,000 words per week (5,000‑10,000 words per month).

Required profile

• Minimum 2 years of professional English‑Arabic translation experience.
• Ability to translate 2,000‑3,500 words per day.
• Full professional fluency in Arabic with exceptional grammar.
• Professional working proficiency in English.
• Familiarity with technical content on the Syrian conflict, human rights, or international law (preferred).

Required skills

• Professional translation proficiency (English ↔ Arabic).
