Environmental Health & WASH Coordinator (12‑month assignment)

About the role

The International Rescue Committee is seeking an Environmental Health / Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (EH/WASH) Coordinator to lead WASH programming for its 12‑month Ebola response in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The coordinator will provide technical oversight, embed protection and safeguarding principles, and ensure safe, dignified WASH services for affected communities.

Key responsibilities

• Lead implementation of IRC’s EH/WASH strategy for the Ebola response, including scale‑up planning, staffing, resource allocation and geographic prioritisation.
• Provide technical oversight and delivery of environmental health and WASH activities in collaboration with health, IPC, RCCE and protection sectors.
• Supervise WASH Managers in Ituri and North Kivu and oversee WASH Officers and Assistants across the response.
• Work within Ebola isolation units at supported health facilities, adhering strictly to infection‑control procedures and wearing personal protective equipment at all times.
• Integrate protection and safeguarding principles into all WASH interventions and strengthen community access to safe, dignified WASH services.

Required profile

• Proven experience coordinating WASH programmes in humanitarian emergencies.
• Knowledge of infection prevention and control (IPC) practices and ability to operate safely in high‑risk health settings.
• Capacity to supervise staff and collaborate with multi‑sectoral partners.
• Commitment to protection and safeguarding standards.
