Gardener – Temple Grounds Maintenance

About the role

This entry‑level position supports the upkeep of temple grounds, ensuring the area remains beautiful, safe, and reflective of the sacred experience. The gardener works under senior staff guidance and follows temple facilities standards.

Key responsibilities

• Perform basic grounds‑keeping tasks such as mowing, edging, trimming, mulching, and assisting with planting perennials, shrubs, and seasonal flowers.
• Operate hand tools and power equipment safely, maintain the irrigation system, and address winter‑related or other natural hazards.
• Remove debris, fallen leaves, and trash to keep landscaped areas clean, and support volunteers during grounds‑keeping activities.

Required profile

• Current temple recommend holder and either 2 years of relevant experience or a diploma in agronomy, horticulture, landscaping, or related field.
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 lb regularly, occasional lifts of up to 100 lb, and to stand, walk, bend, kneel, squat, push and pull for extended periods.
• Capability to follow verbal and written instructions, pass safety certifications, and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Required skills

• Operation of landscaping hand tools and small power machinery.
• Maintenance of irrigation systems.
• Use of professional fertilizers and chemicals in accordance with safety protocols.
