Humanitarian Director

About the role

The Humanitarian Director will lead Save the Children’s emergency response and humanitarian programmes in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Based in Goma, the role provides strategic direction, advocacy, and coordination across all sectors to ensure timely, effective assistance for children affected by crises.

Key responsibilities

• Provide overall leadership and strategic oversight for the DRC humanitarian response, including programme planning and budget management.
• Develop and implement the CAT‑2 humanitarian strategy, ensuring alignment with Save the Children’s global standards.
• Lead advocacy, policy engagement, and representation at high‑level donor and stakeholder meetings.
• Oversee preparation of funding proposals, donor reporting, and compliance with child protection, health, and safety policies.
• Coordinate cross‑sector collaboration among technical units and field managers to deliver integrated assistance.
• Manage and mentor Field Managers and other senior staff, fostering capacity building and partnership development.

Required profile

• Extensive experience (minimum 10 years) in humanitarian programme management, preferably in conflict‑affected settings.
• Proven track record of leading large‑scale emergency responses and developing strategic humanitarian plans.
• Strong understanding of donor requirements, proposal writing, and budget oversight.
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills for high‑level advocacy and stakeholder engagement.
• Commitment to child protection, gender equity, and humanitarian principles.
