Infectious Disease Surveillance Advisor – Epidemic Preparedness

About the role

PATH is seeking an Infectious Disease Surveillance Advisor to lead technical and operational aspects of the STRIDES project in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The role supports the strengthening of surveillance, detection, and analytical capacity for both human and animal health across the country.

Key responsibilities

• Assist day‑to‑day technical and operational activities for surveillance projects in the DRC.
• Develop, coordinate, and implement epidemiological and laboratory surveillance for zoonotic, epidemic‑ and pandemic‑prone diseases.
• Support outbreak investigations at regional and national levels.
• Provide technical guidance to regional staff to keep activities aligned with work plans.
• Review and revise project and donor reports, draft publications, and external communications.
• Coordinate with ministries of health, district health staff, and development partners.
• Contribute to national guidelines and normative policies on disease surveillance.
• Produce and disseminate high‑quality data products such as SitReps, bulletins, and health risk assessments.

Required profile

• Master’s degree (or equivalent) in epidemiology, public health, veterinary science, or a related field.
• Demonstrated expertise in human and animal disease surveillance.
• Experience working with international health regulations, Joint External Evaluation results, and other global guidelines.
• Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
