Legal Advisor

About the role

The Legal Advisor will protect RCS by ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation, internal policies and regulatory requirements. You will work closely with the Legal team to provide guidance, manage risk and support business stakeholders across the organisation.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, vet and update legal documents such as contracts and correspondence accurately and on time.
• Provide legal advice on legislation including the National Credit Act, Insurance legislation, Debt Collectors’ Act and POPIA.
• Monitor legal developments, conduct research and report on regulatory changes affecting RCS.
• Manage legal risk in line with RCS risk frameworks, log incidents and participate in relevant meetings.
• Act as Operational Risk Control (OPC) liaison for the Legal Department, ensuring compliance with risk control processes.
• Serve as Regulatory Watch Officer, tracking industry and legislative updates.
• Develop and deliver legal training programmes to promote a culture of compliance.
• Assist with internal reporting, shareholder management, ad‑hoc audits and functional projects.
• Support contracts administration, represent the Legal department at forums and engage with regulators such as CIPC and the Information Regulator.
• Provide Company Secretarial support when required, including drafting and managing resolutions.

Required profile

• Admitted Attorney with a good understanding of South African law.
• Minimum of 2 years post‑qualification experience, preferably in the financial services sector.
• Strong analytical, strategic and problem‑solving abilities.
• High level of confidentiality and maturity in handling sensitive information.

Required skills

• Knowledge of South African legislation (National Credit Act, POPIA, etc.).
• Experience drafting and reviewing contracts and legal correspondence.
• Ability to conduct regulatory research and produce clear reports.
