Load & Haul Mechanic

About the role

The Load & Haul Mechanic reports to the Maintenance Supervisor and is responsible for the safe, efficient upkeep of underground loading and transport equipment, primarily Caterpillar machines. The role ensures high availability and reliability of loaders, trucks, and related assets.

Key responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance according to plans and manufacturer specifications.
• Inspect mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, transmission, braking, steering, cooling and lubrication systems.
• Diagnose mechanical failures using manuals, diagrams and diagnostic tools.
• Execute repairs, adjustments, component replacements and recommission equipment.
• Respond quickly to equipment breakdowns to minimise downtime.
• Verify repair conformity through post‑intervention tests and safety checks.
• Analyse recurring failures and contribute to fleet performance improvements.
• Record all interventions, parts used and defects in SAP.
• Collaborate with planning, reliability, mining operations, HSE and supply‑chain teams.

Required profile

• State diploma in general or automotive mechanics.
• At least five years’ experience maintaining underground mobile mining or heavy industrial equipment.
• Practical experience with Sandvik and/or Caterpillar underground equipment.
• Strong safety culture, analytical mindset and team orientation.

Required skills
