Advisor – Drill Rig Breakdowns

About the role

The Advisor – Drill Rig Breakdowns will work under the Superintendent of Underground Mobile Equipment Maintenance to provide specialist technical expertise for diagnosing and repairing underground drilling rigs. The role focuses on reducing downtime, improving equipment reliability, and supporting the development of maintenance teams.

Key responsibilities

• Diagnose complex failures of Sandvik drills and associated systems using technical data, schematics and diagnostic instruments.
• Provide technical guidance during major repairs and ensure post‑repair inspections, functional testing and safety verification.
• Identify root causes of failures, analyse equipment history and operating conditions, and document findings in SAP.
• Contribute to downtime reduction by improving diagnostic and repair methods and eliminating recurring failures.
• Support manufacturers’ technical representatives with detailed diagnostic information.
• Coach mechanics in advanced troubleshooting, repair techniques and documentation practices.

Required profile

• Degree or equivalent experience in mechanical, electrical or heavy‑equipment engineering.
• Minimum ten years’ experience maintaining underground mining mobile equipment or heavy industrial equipment.
• Proven experience with Sandvik and/or Caterpillar equipment.
• Strong background in planned maintenance, breakdown troubleshooting, reliability and root‑cause analysis.
• Experience with SAP or a computerized maintenance management system.
• Ability to mentor national staff and transfer technical skills.
