M-Pesa Specialist – Permanent Compliance & AML Controller

About the role

The M-Pesa Specialist will provide independent oversight of compliance, AML/CFT, HR, legal and regulatory controls across the mobile money ecosystem. The role ensures that regulatory obligations and internal policies are implemented, monitored, tested and reported to senior management and relevant committees.

Key responsibilities

• Design, assess and test the operating effectiveness of compliance and AML/CFT controls.
• Monitor compliance KPIs, document issues in Observation‑Risk‑Recommendation format and track remediation.
• Conduct thematic reviews such as SIM‑swap or account‑takeover risk assessments.
• Maintain a regulatory compliance inventory and validate readiness for supervisory examinations.
• Oversee legal controls, including contracts, SLAs and third‑party agreements, and escalate material legal risks.
• Test HR controls related to recruitment integrity, disciplinary processes, training compliance and confidentiality.

Required profile

• Strong understanding of AML/CFT regulations, KYC processes and transaction monitoring.
• Experience with compliance frameworks in the mobile money or electronic money sector.
• Ability to work independently, challenge control owners and produce clear, evidence‑based findings.
• Excellent analytical and reporting skills.
