Senior Adviser – WASH/IPC (P-5) – 6‑month contract

About the role

UNICEF is seeking a senior professional to lead the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) and Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) response to the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The role is based in Bunia for a six‑month temporary appointment and requires strategic leadership across multiple provinces.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement strategic plans for WASH/IPC interventions aligned with the Ebola Incident Management System.
• Provide technical guidance and policy dialogue with national and provincial authorities.
• Mobilise resources and coordinate inter‑agency efforts to ensure a coherent response.
• Oversee the delivery of WASH/IPC activities, monitoring performance and ensuring quality standards.
• Facilitate government‑led coordination mechanisms across affected and at‑risk areas.

Required profile

• Executive‑level experience (minimum 12 years) in humanitarian WASH and IPC programmes.
• Proven senior leadership in complex emergency settings, preferably with Ebola or similar outbreaks.
• Strong ability to convene stakeholders and influence policy at national and provincial levels.
