Senior Hydrologist

About the role

The Senior Hydrologist will lead surface water and storm‑water management for safe, efficient open‑pit mining at Mutanda Mining. Reporting to the Hydrogeology Superintendent, the role combines technical leadership with hands‑on project delivery in a tropical mining environment.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement short‑, medium‑ and long‑term water‑management plans for surface water and stormwater.
• Design, construct and maintain drainage infrastructure such as sumps, channels, culverts and storm‑water systems.
• Plan and supervise groundwater monitoring, drill‑hole programs, dewatering systems and pump‑station operations.
• Ensure compliance with Glencore policies, MUMI SAFEWORK V2 requirements and local environmental standards.
• Lead technical teams, provide coaching, and coordinate with multidisciplinary stakeholders.
• Maintain and interpret hydrological data, modelling results and fluid‑dynamics calculations.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Hydrology, Civil Engineering, Water Resources Management or a related field.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in surface‑water or storm‑water management within mining or civil‑engineering projects.
• Experience in tropical mining operations and in designing drainage infrastructure.
• Professional registration as an Engineer or Scientist is desirable.

Required skills

• Hydrological modelling and fluid‑dynamics analysis.
• Groundwater and surface‑water management planning.
• Pump sizing, pipe‑flow calculations and pump‑station operation.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other Office applications.
• Experience using mining software such as Surpac, Deswik and hydrogeological databases.
