Senior Superintendent I – Open Pit Mine Planning

About the role

Lead the complete open‑pit mine planning function from strategic Life‑of‑Mine (LOM) planning through to operational execution for a large copper mine in the DRC. Ensure plans maximise resource value while meeting safety, geotechnical, infrastructure and processing constraints.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and optimise strategic and LOM plans, translating them into annual, monthly, weekly and operational schedules.
• Lead multidisciplinary planning teams, manage blasting design and execution, on‑site dispatch, equipment lifecycle and contractor coordination.
• Integrate mine planning with geology, geotechnical, processing, hydrogeology and infrastructure requirements.
• Drive mine reconciliation, continuous improvement, and stakeholder management.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mining or Geological Engineering (Master’s preferred).
• Minimum 15 years of mining experience, including at least 10 years in open‑pit mine planning and 5 years in senior technical management.
• Proven experience in large‑scale mechanised open‑pit operations with volumes >10 million m³ per year.
• Professional certification or chartered qualification in a mining‑related engineering discipline.

Required skills

• Advanced proficiency in Deswik and pit optimisation/scheduling software (Whittle or equivalent).
• Experience with Vulcan, Surpac, Datamine, MineSched or similar platforms.
• CAD, GIS, Power BI and advanced Microsoft Excel.
• Financial modelling, OPEX/CAPEX analysis, blasting design and equipment management.
