Surveillance Officer – STRIDES Project

About the role

PATH is seeking a Surveillance Officer to lead technical and operational aspects of the STRengthening Infectious disease DEtection Systems (STRIDES) Project in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The role focuses on strengthening surveillance, detection, and analytical capacity for both human and animal health.

Key responsibilities

• Support day‑to‑day technical and operational activities of the STRIDES project in the DRC.
• Develop, coordinate, and implement epidemiological and laboratory surveillance activities for zoonotic, epidemic‑ and pandemic‑prone diseases.
• Assist with outbreak investigations at regional and national levels.
• Provide technical guidance to regional staff to ensure alignment with work plans and donor requirements.
• Review and revise project and donor reports, draft publications, and external communications.
• Collaborate with ministries of health, district health teams, and development partners.
• Contribute to national guidelines and normative policies on disease surveillance.
• Produce and disseminate high‑quality data products, including situation reports, bulletins, and health risk assessments.

Required profile

• Master’s degree (or international equivalent) in epidemiology, public health, or a related field.
• Demonstrated expertise in infectious disease surveillance and outbreak response.
• Experience working with both human and animal health systems.
• Ability to work with diverse stakeholders and provide technical guidance with minimal supervision.
