Infectious Disease Surveillance Advisor – Global Health

About the role

PATH is seeking an Infectious Disease Surveillance Advisor to lead technical and operational components of the STRIDES project in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The advisor will strengthen both human and animal health surveillance systems, ensuring high‑quality data collection, analysis, and reporting.

Key responsibilities

• Support day‑to‑day technical and operational aspects of surveillance activities across the DRC.
• Develop, coordinate, and implement epidemiological and laboratory surveillance work plans for zoonotic, epidemic‑ and pandemic‑prone diseases.
• Guide regional technical staff to keep project activities aligned with work plans and donor requirements.
• Review and revise project reports, donor deliverables, and draft publications.
• Collaborate with ministries of health, district health teams, and development partners.
• Provide expert input on national guidelines, Joint External Evaluation results, and International Health Regulations.
• Produce and disseminate situation reports, bulletins, and health risk assessments.

Required profile

• Advanced degree (Master’s or higher) in public health, epidemiology, veterinary medicine, or a related field.
• Extensive experience in infectious disease surveillance and outbreak investigation in low‑resource settings.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and provide technical guidance to multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong written communication skills for report preparation and external communication.

Required skills

• Expertise in epidemiological surveillance methods.
• Knowledge of laboratory surveillance for zoonotic and pandemic‑prone diseases.
• Familiarity with International Health Regulations and Joint External Evaluation frameworks.
• Ability to produce high‑quality data products such as SitReps and health risk assessments.
