About the role
Under the direct supervision of the Environment Manager, the Environmental Engineer – Water is responsible for leading the company’s water governance and defining the water management strategy in line with responsible management principles. The role ensures operational compliance with environmental legislation, regulatory requirements and recognized best practices.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and maintain an integrated water management strategy for the site.
- Lead implementation of water quality improvement programmes and maintain the site’s water balance and quality management system.
- Optimize water treatment processes, sediment management, storm‑water handling and infiltration control.
- Identify, assess and mitigate water‑related environmental risks.
- Establish and monitor water quality KPIs, reference plans and critical controls.
- Design and maintain executive dashboards and tracking tools for water improvement plans.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary teams on hydraulic infrastructure projects and operational enhancements.
- Manage interactions with regulators, prepare compliance reports and support lender pre‑approval reviews concerning water management.
- Promote continuous improvement through innovation, technology and best practices.
- Contribute to internal, regulatory and investor environmental reporting.
- Integrate water management into mining and operational planning, influencing design and execution.
- Support asset life‑cycle data tracking systems and maintain accurate water records for environmental performance assessments.
- Provide validated environmental data to the environmental manager and planning teams for licensing and performance reviews.
- Conduct regular field inspections to ensure timely reporting of relevant environmental indicators.
Required profile
- Degree in environmental engineering, water resources, or a related field.
- Proven experience in water management within an industrial or mining context.
- Strong knowledge of environmental legislation, regulatory requirements and best practice standards for water.
- Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage complex projects.
- Excellent analytical and reporting skills.
