Law Enforcement Trainer for Kahuzi-Biega National Park

About the role

The Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) seeks a Law Enforcement Trainer to design and deliver a comprehensive ecoguard training programme for Kahuzi‑Biega National Park (KBNP) in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Based at the park headquarters, the trainer will work closely with the Park Director, Deputy Park Director and Law Enforcement Advisor to build a professional, well‑equipped enforcement team.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement a systematic law‑enforcement training and mentoring plan for all KBNP staff, including chiefs, section and platoon leaders.
• Create and deliver Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) training, annual courses on communications, human rights, gender equality and conflict sensitivity.
• Coordinate selection, induction and specialised training of new ecoguards, supervise patrols, inspections and reporting.
• Assist the Law Enforcement Advisor in operational planning, equipment provision and act as deputy when required.
• Manage external consultants, prepare training budgets, work plans and donor reports, and ensure data collection for monitoring and evaluation.

Required profile

• Minimum 10 years’ experience in a similar law‑enforcement or training role, preferably in remote, forested environments.
• First‑aid certification and a full/international driving licence.
• Proficiency with standard office software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
• Fluent in French and English (or Kiswahili) and able to work in a culturally diverse, politically complex setting.
