Country Director DRC

About the role

World Relief, a global Christian humanitarian organization, is looking for a Country Director for the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) based in Goma. The role carries overall responsibility for the strategic and operational leadership of the country program portfolio, covering day-to-day activities such as financial management, team security and donor relations, so that the humanitarian and development response is high-impact and sustainable.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement a revised country strategy aligned with World Relief's mission, vision and values, its implementation strategies and the Core Humanitarian Standards
• Recruit the necessary personnel and evolve policies, structures and systems
• Monitor programs and ensure the quality of monitoring and evaluation processes
• Build a staff capacity-building plan and lead the senior management team in developing country strategies
• Drive business development and represent the organization in the DRC with government, donors and other local and international organizations
• Take part in U.S. and international resource development efforts and build strategic partnerships with local institutions, government, UN agencies, cluster systems and implementing partners
• Travel frequently to project field sites within and outside Goma

Required profile

• Mature and personal Christian faith, committed to World Relief's mission, vision and values
• Able to affirm World Relief's Core Beliefs, Statement of Faith and the National Association of Evangelicals' For the Health of the Nation document
• Experience administering U.S. government and UN grants
• Proven leadership of international donor-supported programs, with strategic planning, resource mobilization, proposal development, personnel management, supervision and budgeting in a multi-project, multi-funding environment
• Minimum of 5 years in international relief and development with progressive leadership, or 7 years in business management and leadership
• University degree in a related field; business management highly valued; master's degree preferred
• Must be able to relocate to and live in the DRC

Required skills

• Strong oral and written communication in French and English
• Ability to manage multicultural teams and strong interpersonal skills
• Preferred: knowledge of Swahili and Lingala
